Orlando needs more figure drawing, right? :D Apr 28th will feature the first Dr. Sketchy Orlando drawing session at Tatame Lounge!

What's Dr. Sketchy? It's caberet figure-drawing with a wacky group of artists and models.

Of course, there's drawing... but we provide you the most ravishing, exotic, fascinating models our fair city can provide. Elaborate costumes, fabulous makeup, and amazing personalities. We love to combine burlesque and art-- our models are beautiful bellydancers, professional costume designers, circus performers, drag queens, independent musicians... (On that note...if you have a pair of fishnets or a sequined bra, you might want to contact us for modeling opportunities. We'll pamper and worship you.) Top that off with a wonderful lounge atmosphere, ridiculous drawing contests for prizes and drinks, and a delicious blend of comedy and wit.

If it's popular enough, we'll host these monthly at Tatame. Please please please spread the word and bring friends! Artists are $5 for the whole 3 hours (gotta cover those model fees!), but you can bring your non-artist friends, drinking buddies, neighbors, etc for free. Just bring your sketchbook. :D

Yeeeeah, I'm pretty unhappy about the results. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. :) It shows poor judges for the contest-- I wasn't expecting to win at all either, but mainly because there were at least 5 other pieces that were much more exceptional in every way.

That Jack O'Lantern should have been disqualified from even being in the competition-- It was only a coloring of someone other artist's hard work (but she entered it in only her name), and some Photoshop filters piled on top. It was definitely made by what real artists refer to as a Photoshop jock-- someone who has no idea how to use the true potential of the program, and just piles a bunch of filters that they think is cool. It's a shame that it one, because not only does it reinforce a bad practice in the artist, but it ignored the incredible pieces that were entered that were rendered from scratch without cheap tricks or pre-existing models.

I can't believe she entered what was essentially a coloring book page into an art show, and I can't believe the judges allowed it. :/
